After two months of deep industry consultation, the first challenge that rose: Wastewater treatment in breweries.
While it starts with beer, the impact flows through farms, communities, and ecosystems. Many brewers want better solutions but don’t know where to start.
So, we opened the call—and innovators from over 15 countries responded with sustainable, cost-effective wastewater solutions for WA breweries. We’ve now selected our top 5, who will fly to Perth to showcase their tech.

What is PropaGATE?
PropaGATE is Western Australia’s first ever agtech focused landing pad. We are tackling key challenges in agriculture, especially drought and climate change, through a collaborative, challenge-led approach.
Beanstalk, the Grower Group Alliance and the Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia (FIPWA) have partnered to launch this bold challenge-led innovation program.
We work with WA farmers to identify issues and run solution "sprints," bringing cutting-edge technologies from around the globe to the region. Farmers are involved every step of the way, from defining challenges to implementing solutions
The Program is Funded by the South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub through the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia (FIPWA).

Why focus on innovation?

However, it faces pressing challenges like rising input costs, climate pressures, and global demands for traceability and sustainability. Innovative technologies can tackle key issues and enhance the sector's sustainability and resilience
Industry and stakeholder interviews have already highlighted key issues such as: 1) wastewater treatment 2) water quality monitoring 3) cattle emissions measurement 4) bird damage in orchards 5) weeding in horticulture, and many more. This long list of challenges is a living document and will continuously be updated, and we welcome input from all stakeholders.
